Bad Kids is a non-fungible token (NFT) collection of 9,999 procedurally generated character illustrations, launched in March 2022 on Stargaze, an NFT-focused blockchain and marketplace in the Cosmos ecosystem. The collection is characterised by a deliberately crude, hand-drawn visual style, described by its own creators as "bad drawings of bad kids". It is widely regarded as one of the flagship or "blue-chip" collections of the Cosmos NFT sector, and became notable less for its artwork than for the number of Cosmos-ecosystem token airdrops distributed to its holders between 2023 and 2024.
Overview
The collection consists of 9,999 tokens, of which a small number have been burned, leaving roughly 9,996 in circulation. Each image is assembled algorithmically from a library of more than 400 hand-drawn components, producing characters that include children, robots, demons and other figures. Individual tokens carry metadata attributes such as age, brains, muscles and "badness", which determine relative rarity within the collection.
The creators of Bad Kids have remained pseudonymous, a common practice among NFT projects of the period. The collection carries a 5% creator royalty on secondary sales.
Launch and distribution
Bad Kids minted on the Stargaze launchpad in March 2022 at a price of 100 STARS per token. Stargaze, which had launched shortly beforehand, marketed itself on gas-free minting and trading, and the Bad Kids mint sold out rapidly. The collection's early arrival on the chain contributed to its later association with the formative period of Cosmos NFT culture.
Secondary trading takes place primarily on the Stargaze marketplace. Third-party aggregators including CoinGecko and DappRadar also track the collection.
Stated philosophy
Bad Kids is unusual among NFT collections of its era in explicitly declining to publish a roadmap. Project materials summarise the position as "no utility, no roadmap, no promises", framing the community itself as the roadmap and locating the collection's value in identity, ownership and cultural association rather than in a schedule of promised features. The project has taken no formal position on derivative works, leaving holders to build independently around their characters.
This stance has been characterised by observers as both a defence against the unmet-promise pattern common in the 2021–2022 NFT market and, more sceptically, as an absence of any commitment that could later be judged.
Airdrops
Bad Kids became widely known as an "airdrop magnet" - an asset held speculatively because holding it repeatedly qualified wallets for token distributions from unrelated projects. None of these distributions were promised by the Bad Kids team, and eligibility was determined solely by the issuing projects.
Documented and widely reported examples include:
Namada — the Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RPGF) distribution announced in December 2023 allocated 65 million NAM, or 6.5% of total supply, across several eligibility categories. Bad Kids holders on Stargaze were included alongside ATOM and OSMO stakers, Gitcoin donors and trusted-setup participants; the snapshot for Bad Kids holdings was taken on 14 November 2023, with a claim deadline of 28 December 2024.
Dymension — the Genesis Rolldrop (Season 1), announced in December 2023, distributed 70 million DYM (7% of supply). Eligibility included holders of Bad Kids, Pudgy Penguins and Mad Lads, in addition to stakers of TIA, ATOM, OSMO and SOL.
Project and community sources additionally list Wormhole, Saga, Lava Network, Penumbra and Mantra among the distributions that included Bad Kids holders. A token designated $BAD was airdropped to holders in late 2023 or early 2024, but is described by community documentation as unofficial and unaffiliated with the collection.
Bit Kids
Around the collection's first anniversary in 2023, the Bad Kids team released Bit Kids, a companion collection airdropped 1:1 to Bad Kids holders. Each Bit Kid reinterprets the traits and design of the corresponding original token in a different visual style. Community documentation attributes the artwork to a younger sibling of the original Bad Kids artist.
Bad Kid #7012 and the stratospheric flight
In October 2023, the cross-chain routing protocol Squid purchased Bad Kid #7012 and attached a physical representation of it to a high-altitude balloon, which was launched on 19 October 2023 as a promotional campaign for swaps between EVM and Cosmos chains. The payload frame, weighing under 600 grams, was built from aluminium and plexiglass to survive stratospheric conditions.
The token was subsequently given away by raffle, with entries earned through cross-chain swaps made before 20 October 2023. The episode is routinely described within the collection's own materials as a Bad Kid having "gone to space", although the flight was a balloon ascent into the stratosphere rather than an orbital or suborbital spaceflight.

Reception
Stargaze has described Bad Kids as a blue-chip collection within its ecosystem. Commentators have noted that the collection's cultural position within Cosmos - rather than its artistic ambition - is the principal driver of its recognition, and that the recurring airdrop eligibility created a reflexive dynamic in which the asset was held in anticipation of further distributions.
