Yield Gorillas

The collection that started GATA Yield.

Yield Gorillas were the first dedicated Yield Series collection from GATA, launched in November 2022. With 10,000 NFTs, the collection was one of GATA’s earliest experiments with the idea that an NFT could be more than a collectible; it could participate in an underlying economic system.

The original model connected the collection’s mint proceeds to staking and DeFi activities managed through GATA Yield. Rewards generated by those assets were distributed to holders, with the rarity of each Gorilla determining its share.

But the Gorillas were never just about numbers.

Their lore deliberately contrasted with the world of GATA Cats. While the Cats came from a more mythical and hierarchical universe, the Gorillas belonged to an ordinary, shared environment. Their identity came from their surroundings rather than status, from bears and bulls to moons and other traits that shaped their world.

That idea carried into the economics of the collection. Rarity was not simply cosmetic; it became part of how participation in the Yield Series worked.

The beginning of GATA Yield

Yield Gorillas became the foundation for everything that followed.

Over their documented reward history, the collection generated $129,900 in total yield, with approximately $95,000 distributed to holders across 38 epochs. The underlying model evolved several times as the community experimented with staking, liquidity provision, burning and different ways of directing the collection’s treasury.

Those historical experiments eventually became the foundation for GATA’s broader NFTfi approach.

From Epochs to Reward Hub

GATA’s reward architecture has since evolved beyond the original monthly epoch system.

Yield Gorillas are now part of the GATA Reward Hub, alongside the other GATA Yield collections. The current system brings NFT participation, rarity, holding score, rewards and other ecosystem activities into a unified experience.

The mechanics have changed over time, but the original question remains the same:

Can an NFT become part of an economic system rather than simply represent an image?

Yield Gorillas were where GATA began exploring that question.
